Why Professional Sourcing Makes a Difference - Lenton Company

Why Professional Sourcing Makes a Difference

When homeowners begin planning a remodel, it is natural to start browsing products online or walking through big box home improvement stores for inspiration. The displays are beautiful, the prices can seem appealing, and many products carry familiar brand names. But what many homeowners do not realize is that products sold through retail channels are not always the same quality as those sourced through professional contractors and trade suppliers. In many cases, two products may look nearly identical online or in a showroom while being built very differently behind the scenes.

What You Don’t See Matters Most

One of the most common examples involves plumbing fixtures. A faucet purchased through a big box retailer or online mass retailer may carry a trusted brand name and have a beautiful finish, but internally it may contain more plastic components, including valves and connection parts designed to reduce manufacturing costs. The contractor-grade version of that same faucet often contains heavier-duty metal valves and internal components designed for durability, long-term performance, and easier servicing over time. The differences are not always visible from the outside, but homeowners often notice them years later through leaks, wear, or premature replacement.

Professional-grade products are typically designed to withstand daily use more effectively, especially in high-traffic areas like kitchens and primary bathrooms. Contractors also have access to product lines and finish options that are not always available in retail settings.

The Rise of Online Retail Challenges

Online shopping has made remodeling products more accessible than ever, but it has also created new challenges for homeowners. Many online mass retailers prioritize competitive pricing and fast shipping, which can sometimes come at the expense of product consistency or quality control. Even when products appear identical in photos, subtle differences in materials, thickness, finishes, warranties, or internal construction can significantly affect long-term performance. Some manufacturers even produce separate retail product lines specifically for large online or warehouse distribution channels. This is especially important with plumbing fixtures, cabinetry hardware, lighting, flooring, and shower systems where performance matters just as much as appearance.

A Good Example: Shower Systems

Shower surrounds are another area where product quality can vary dramatically. At first glance, many prefabricated shower systems can appear similar. However, contractor-grade products such as Bestbath are built very differently from many lightweight retail units commonly found at big box stores. Bestbath units are fully reinforced with plywood backing, creating a much stronger and more durable structure. This added strength provides several advantages, including greater stability and long-term durability. It also allows grab bars, accessories, and other safety features to be attached directly to the shower walls securely without additional reinforcement behind the unit. Many lower-cost retail shower systems lack that structural backing and can feel noticeably more flexible or flimsy over time. For homeowners planning living-in-place features or simply wanting a more solid, long-lasting installation, those hidden construction details make a significant difference.

More Than Just Fixtures

The same principle applies to many remodeling materials:

  • Cabinet construction quality
  • Drawer hardware and glides
  • Tile durability and finish consistency
  • Flooring wear layers
  • Lighting components
  • Appliance features and warranties

Products available through contractor resources are often manufactured with higher performance standards because they are intended for long-term residential use rather than price-point retail sales.

Guidance Beyond the Showroom

Another major advantage of working with a professional remodeling team is guidance through the selection process. A beautiful product still needs to function well for the way a homeowner lives. At Lenton Company, sourcing is not simply about picking attractive finishes. It involves understanding which materials perform best in real-life conditions, how products work together, and which selections provide lasting value over time. Sometimes spending slightly more upfront prevents costly replacements, maintenance issues, or frustration later.

The Value of Trusted Resources

Contractors build long-standing relationships with trusted vendors and suppliers. These partnerships provide access to dependable products, knowledgeable product representatives, and support when questions or warranty issues arise. That network becomes an important part of the remodeling process and gives homeowners confidence that the products selected are designed to last.

Investing in Quality

A remodel is more than a cosmetic update. It is an investment in how your home functions and feels every day. While retail stores can be helpful for inspiration, professional sourcing helps ensure that what goes into your home is built for durability, performance, and long-term satisfaction. Because in remodeling, quality is not always about what you see on the surface. Often, it is about what is behind the walls, inside the fixtures, and built into the details that homeowners rely on every day.

The Lenton Approach

At Lenton Company, we believe a successful remodel is about more than beautiful finishes. It is about selecting quality materials and products that truly support the way a home functions every day. While many products may look similar on the surface, the differences in craftsmanship, durability, and performance often become clear over time. That is why we guide homeowners through the sourcing process with trusted contractor resources, helping them make informed decisions that balance style, function, and long-term value. Because a well-designed home should not only look beautiful on day one, it should continue performing beautifully for years to come.

DESIGN INSPIRATION: Natural Stone Looks with Modern Simplicity - Lenton Company

DESIGN INSPIRATION: Natural Stone Looks with Modern Simplicity

Sometimes great design inspiration begins with a single material. This month’s inspiration was sparked by several new tile collections recently added to the Lenton Company Design Center after a visit from our Bedrosians Tile & Stone representative. Among the newest showroom samples, one collection immediately stood out for its soft movement, elegant scale, and natural stone appearance.

The result is a bathroom design that feels clean, calming, and luxurious while embracing one of today’s growing trends: larger-format tile with minimal grout lines.

Large-Format Tile with the Look of Natural Onyx

The centerpiece of this design is Gemma Ceramic Tile in White Onyx from Bedrosians Tile & Stone. Inspired by natural onyx stone, the tile features soft flowing movement and subtle veining that adds depth without overwhelming the space.

What makes this tile especially striking is its 24×48 large-format size. Larger tiles create a more seamless appearance in the shower by reducing grout lines and allowing the beauty of the tile itself to take center stage. The result feels cleaner, more open, and more spa-like.

Pebble Flooring Adds Organic Texture

To complement the sleek wall tile, the shower floor introduces texture through Waterbrook Sliced Pebble Mosaic in White Carrara, also from Bedrosians. Pebble flooring has become a favorite in many remodeling projects because it brings a subtle organic feel into the bathroom while adding visual contrast against smooth wall surfaces. The sliced pebble format keeps the look refined and modern while still providing the natural texture homeowners love.

Warm Wood Tones for Balance

To keep the palette feeling warm and inviting, the design pairs the tile selections with the Kresla vanity in Light Oak from Kohler. The natural wood tone softens the cooler whites and grays while bringing warmth and balance to the room. The integrated quartz top and clean-lined design help maintain the bathroom’s modern aesthetic without feeling overly contemporary.

Black Fixtures Create Contrast

For contrast and definition, the design incorporates black plumbing fixtures and lighting. The Riff shower system in black from Kohler adds a modern architectural element while complementing the natural movement within the tile. The black finish continues with the Marant vanity light from Kichler, which adds a clean, contemporary touch while helping frame the vanity area beautifully.

Soft Paint Keeps the Space Light

To complete the palette, the walls are painted in Pearl City from Dunn-Edwards, a soft neutral that works beautifully with both the warm oak vanity and the subtle movement in the tile. The color helps maintain a light, airy atmosphere while allowing the materials to remain the focal point.

Lenton  Pro Tip: Large-format tile is an excellent option for homeowners looking to create a cleaner, more seamless shower design. Fewer grout lines can make a shower feel larger and easier to maintain while allowing the beauty of the tile itself to stand out.

Bringing the Look Together

This month’s inspiration combines soft stone-inspired movement, organic textures, warm wood tones, and bold black accents to create a bathroom that feels sophisticated yet calming. By layering natural materials with thoughtful scale and contrast, the design achieves a timeless look that feels equally luxurious and livable.

At Lenton Company, we love helping homeowners discover materials that inspire them and transforming those ideas into spaces that feel both beautiful and functional for everyday living.
