Designing for Comfort, Accessibility, and Connection in Rosamond

Project Overview

Challenge:

Referred by a past Lenton Company client, our homeowner wanted to make her residence easier to live in and welcoming enough to once again host family gatherings and holidays. Ongoing medical issues made reaching upper cabinets, navigating tight spaces, and using the bathroom increasingly difficult. In the kitchen, she hoped for a more open layout, better access to storage, a place to display her teapot collection, and seating to accommodate large family get-togethers, without replacing flooring that was no longer available. In the primary bathroom, bulky built-in benches created obstacles, and she was weighing a walk-in tub versus a safer, more streamlined shower. With an interior budget of $30,000 to $40,000, every decision needed to be thoughtful and purposeful.

Design:

The kitchen redesign focused on improving accessibility and flow while preserving existing finishes. The upper cabinets above the peninsula were removed to open the space and matching cabinets were added on the small wall outside the kitchen. Storage was reconfigured for easier reach, including turning a pantry-style cabinet for better access and adding open shelving at comfortable heights for her teapot collection. Seating and appliance placement were carefully evaluated to reduce strain and improve everyday usability.

Build:

The completed remodel delivers a home that supports daily comfort while preparing the space for future family gatherings. The kitchen feels lighter, more open, and easier to use, with improved access to storage and thoughtful details that reduce physical strain. In the primary bathroom, the focus was on improving comfort, accessibility, and usability while working thoughtfully with the existing layout and fixtures. The vanity was refinished to give it a refreshed look. The left sink was capped off, and the countertop was replaced with a single-sink layout, creating significantly more usable counter space. To improve accessibility, two new rollout drawers were added to the vanity. The shower was updated to improve function and appearance without full replacement. The existing fiberglass unit was reglazed, and the valve and trim were replaced, and a new shower door was installed to complete the refresh. These targeted updates delivered meaningful improvements in comfort and accessibility while remaining mindful of scope and budget.

Reveal:

In the words of our homeowner, “I absolutely love the work and the kitchen is fantastic. Being able to reach things easily has made such a difference in my day-to-day life, and it has brought a level of comfort I didn’t realize I was missing. I truly couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. Throughout the remodel, everyone at Lenton Company was professional, pleasant, and respectful. The team took the time to listen and understand my needs, and that care shows in the finished space. I confidently recommend Rob Lenton to anyone looking for a skilled and thoughtful remodeler.”
