A Custom Kitchen Redesign for Open Living in Santa Clarita

Challenge:

The original kitchen was enclosed, separated from the dining room by a wall that restricted both light and flow. The existing cabinetry was functional but lacked the customization required to maximize storage and aesthetics. Additionally, the all-in-one oven and microwave were not vented, creating concerns about air circulation and efficiency. The homeowners wanted a more open, modern space with a seamless transition between the kitchen and dining area while preserving a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Design:

Initially, the project started with RTA (Ready-to-Assemble) cabinets, but due to specific requirements for storage, sizing, and aesthetics, we opted for fully custom cabinetry instead. This allowed for tailored solutions, including maximizing storage in key areas and incorporating specialty finishes. The peninsula became a standout design feature, centered around a one-of-a-kind slab of natural stone that the homeowners discovered. The rest of the kitchen’s finishes and colors were designed to complement this striking focal point.

Build:

To open up the kitchen, we removed the wall between the dining and kitchen areas. This required engineering expertise to design and install a structural beam, which was buried in the drop ceiling to maintain a clean, seamless look. Support posts were strategically placed inside walls, ensuring structural integrity while making it appear as if the space had always been open. New cabinetry was installed, offering enhanced functionality and aesthetics. The range area underwent a significant transformation; a new vented hood/microwave was installed and properly vented to the outside, improving air quality and efficiency.
