Like a lot of stories in the Antelope Valley, ours began with aerospace.
Company founder Robert R. Lenton (Bob) was living in the AV working in aerospace for nearly a decade when he learned he was about to be transferred back to Texas. But instead of moving, he decided to change course and began working as a local handyman in order to stay in the area.
Soon, he became a licensed general contractor and was working on residential remodels, patio covers and small commercial projects alongside his wife Sheila, whom he married in 1984.
Bob’s son, Robert, began working for him after college and at that time they renamed the company Robert Lenton Company.
But tragedy struck just four years later in 1988 when Bob died suddenly. It was a devastating blow to the family, not to mention the growing business.
At the time of his death, Bob’s son Robert was living in Albuquerque with his wife, Evelyn, and young daughter, Taylor. Since Robert had worked for his father on and off over the years, he knew the family business well. So he decided to pack up his family and head back to the Antelope Valley to keep the business afloat.
Robert and Sheila became business partners and forged ahead with growing the company, which at the time was mainly focused on commercial ground-up construction projects, commercial tenant improvements, custom homes, and some residential remodeling.
At first, Sheila ran the office and Robert was in the field with a small crew as needed. The company stayed busy with ground-up construction projects and major remodels. The company was still small, but Robert had grander visions for its future. At the turn of the century, he hung up his tool pouch and began focusing on strategically developing the business.
In 2007, at the brink of the recession, Robert took another leap of faith and followed his dream of starting a residential remodeling division specializing in kitchens and bathrooms. The company hired a project manager specifically for residential jobs and Kendal, Robert's daughter, joined the company in 2010.
The new division quickly soared, and since then Lenton Company has completed hundreds of kitchen and bathroom remodels in and around the Antelope Valley.
Today, the business remains a family affair and is now three-generations strong. Sheila’s still involved with the company and serves as the treasurer, Robert continues to serve as president, a role he’s held for the last 30 years, and Kendal still works as the production manager. And now, Robert’s wife Evelyn works for the company, too, along with five other employees who are all part of the Lenton Company family.
Over the last 30 years, Lenton Company has earned a stellar reputation as the premier remodeling company in the Antelope Valley, and remains committed to improving lives through customized, quality remodeling services.
What will the next 30 years bring to Lenton Company? Stay tuned to find out...
